The Mallorys are either a model YC or a model YL with the YL being the smaller diameter of the two.

The YC with 4 lobe cam uses a ML187A and the YC with a eight lobe cam uses the ML189.

The smaller YL unit uses a ML181 unit........

rodderbilly; I used the following Mallory conversion kit when I converted my Mallory YL-2527501 dual point mechanical advance distributor to electronic in 2003. Also installed matching coil and filter to protect from electrical spikes. I have heard very good things about Pertronix and realize Bubba is the best, but I just wanted to give you my limited info.

Also installed this coil:

Also installed this Power Filter ( surge protector):

rodderbilly,

I gave you the wrong information as i thought you had a model YL or YC distributor. I just looked in my catalog and went on with my day.

19forty is correct your distributor is a later 27 series Mallory. and would need a different module like he shows in the above post..

Be careful on coil selection as the mallory is confusing with two coils #29216 at .700 ohms and # 29219 at 1.4 ohms . they look very much alike but most modules will have a much shorter life using the lower resistance unit....

yes i know the mallory but i in the hamb i read good things about the pertronix....i try it in Europe too,...so i'm going to buy the 9ml-181......now i have in my mallory a 29217 coil that has 1.4ohm impedence mated with a 1.6ohm ballast, last ballast was a tru-tech ru11t with 0.5ohm impedence....but changing to the 1.6ohm ballast i don't have good results....i read that a 3ohms total impedence will be good....
