oil pump
Hi, I just got a nov.1930 dated engine that is partially disassembled an I am putting it back together. I have a question about the oil pump drive. Does the housing around the mesh filter have to be sealed with a gasket to the shaft or can it be loose? I ask because I'm not sure if it should have 2 bolts holding it into place, but this one has no bolts or holes for bolts and is flopping around on the shaft. I'd post a picture but this site won't let me recently, gives me error codes. Thanks!

Re: oil pump
Some of the sheet steel surrounds were soldered in place. They had no bolts or holes. On those with two bolts, I have not used a gasket and had no problems. I would suggest that yours be resoldered or the pump replaced. The loose surround will cause unwanted noise and may keep the screen from doing its job.
