"T" Coil Testing Device

I have this contraption, that I believe to be a "T" Model Coil Testing Device, on a running engine. Notice the hooks to hang it on the radiator rod.
It is a factory made device, but I can not read the name on the decal.

That thars one of them fence electrcatificators. Hang it by the hooks on the wire. Think the cow needs to make the contact between the ground wire and the hot one.
Old story... electric fences were originally used instead of barbed wire so the cow hides didnt get scratched and scarred ruining their value... ws

I really don't know what it is, but one of the posts is like a spark-plug top.
I don't believe it would have been made of wood, to leave hanging outdoors.

I belive that this device is/was a device used to replace the coil, points, wiring and switch of a malfunctioing ignition system. It would alow the car to limp to a more convienient place for servicing. The car would have to have a distributer ignition system (not a stock model t ignition but one like a Model A). The box would be hung from the radiator support rods. It would be hooked to the battery. A coil wire would be used to connect it to the distributer cap. Inside the box is a Model T coil, it supplys high voltage for spark. The engine is free timed by the distributer rotor. Each time the rotor passes a spark plug contact inside of the cap, it would fire that cylinder. Just switch on the device and start the car,once started you must shut the device off to get it to stop.
I demonstrated such a device to our Model A club,the members were amazed that it worked. I have seen a schematic for a solid state version that uses a 555 Timing Intigated circuit and a regular ignition coil.

Thank you for your answer. I'm guessing that this was bought by garages, Ford Dealers, etc., To bring ailing "T"s, into the shop.

Surely it isn't waterproof and the decal & finger joints on the outter case point to manufactured versus home made. I think I'm going with Walt. It's a "hot box" for crippled ignition. Wondering what that plastic (what ever) knob is for? FL&W: did you ever try it out?

No, I have bever tried it out. I don't have a "T", and never did.
It is in the same condition, as it was given, to me, several years ago.
