Fortunately, or unfortunately I carry just about enough stuff to change an engine. I have an electric air pump under my pickup's seat and a 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter. I was a Boy Scout!

I finally got the tire off the wheel, and I found the culprit, a split in the seam of the tube, in the inside surface of the tube. To me, that sounds like an old place for a hole—maybe the seam just gave way?

Going by the tiny cracks further down in the picture that looks like a pretty old tube, I'm not surprised that it failed. Yet you said in your first post: "I installed a new set of American Classic radials with new tubes about 1400 miles ago."

Are you new tubes for use with radial tires?

I bought a new tube to replace it, and the package is clearly marked “for use with radial tires.” I don’t want to chance patching the one that failed. It could have been on a shelf a long time before I actually got it.

FWIW, tubes that are stored folded for a long time, are prone to cracking at the corners of the folds.

I still have my 5 old tubes as spares and I have them laying flat stacked on top of each other just for that reason.

I’m storing my old tubes, inflated in my old tires that are mounted on my old wheels. ;-)

I had to “borrow” one of the old wheels as my spare until I can get a chance to put the new tube in my new tire.

Default Lessons Learned from My First Flat Tire

I found these tire spoons and wheel protectors on Amazon, and they work well with 19” Model A wheels.

I got my new tube in the tire and on the car today. Whew! I’m glad that’s done.
