Default shipping advice/help....

From your experiences, what advice/help/tips would you give regarding shipping an early ford to another country. I know that we learn from mistakes, but figure that you guys are a valuable source to ask...prior to making those mistakes

This depends on how much organising the buyer requires you to do.

If the buyer is organising his own freight port-to-port then you may be required to deliver to a shipping terminal. If this is the case use a professional who will fill out the paperwork and hand over the Title to the authorities. If the buyer has organised door-to-door shipping you only need to put the Title for the car in the glovebox.

The Title is important. Make sure the details are correct and the chassis # and the Title match. A vehicle cannot leave the country and cannot be imported into another country without the Title. The Title and chassis numbers are checked before leaving and on arrival. If there is a discrepancy the buyer dosen't get his car.

Shipping is a straight forward excerise, if you follow the correct procedures and requirements of the freight company you shouldn't have any problems.

The Buyer is responsible for arranging shipping - not you.

If he can't speak English - he can find someone who does.

Personally, I would never do business with someone I
was not able to speak with on the phone .....

hardtimes,
You will earn your nick name many times over....sell the car in the
states....been there.
If it's still worth it because of a huge premium have your customer
find a broker and get ALL your $$$$ up front. Be aware money transfers no matter
the outfit cost money and you can get nailed. If it can go wrong it will go wrong.
An old timer advised me in these transactions be sure the buyer does ALL the work.

Hey Charlie ,
Ha, ha...yeah if you only knew...that that nick name was come by fair and square. Never been nothing as simple as a car involved either !
Well, you guy have given me some really good thots/ideas to work on. As far as getting something, like my car, from me...other than honestly...Well, you'd better ask yourself...is it worth dying for.

Hardtimes, good advice above, and i have just one more thought for you: Currency conversion fees should be on the buyer so you get your dollars without deductions. That is, of course, if you decide to put yourself through the hassle to begin with, and to allow another Ford to escape the USA.

Hey Alan,
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm conflicted over this for sure ! I've had the very same thots that you expressed, regarding keeping in the USA.
Especially today after taking my coupe for a nice long ride and feeling...like an all American old timer ...riding old time American iron!
I'll let you guys, who have been generous enough to share your thoughts, know how it goes.

Personally I have never spoken on the phone with anyone I have bought a car or truck from in the US. All of my correspondence is done via my computer.

Not speaking English shouldn't be a problem. It's the money that talks. Have him organise shipping door-to-door and you will have an easy time. Online translating programs can help. Also as he is risking his money he should be switched on enough to organise a translator.

Don't worry about the dilemma of selling your car overseas. I come from a country, and now live in another country where cashed up Americans have plundered their way through our old cars for at least four decades. Think of your efforts as a correction in the worldwide distribution of early ford iron.

I know what you mean, the first country I was referring to was NZ. Same as you, imported cars are now thick on the ground over here. I think NZ has more per head of population though. I get over there about 3-4 times a year and what I see driving around is amazing.

BTW love the typo...
