Default FSI Diagnosis

I thought I would start a new thread regarding FSI ignition, a club member mentioned to me his A wont run, I know he has this system and he as had problems previously with it, ---- I must mention that I have not looked at it yet and do not know if it is ignition related as the cause not to run.
I am very familiar with modern ignition systems having not long retired from shop life, ---- other than obviously checking to see if there is spark is there a diagnosis check list that can be used to see if the module is bad, ---- not wanting to ruin what maybe be a good module by probing in the wrong places, ---- the last discussion on FSI here it seems like it most likely is bad.
Thanks in advance.
