1940/41 Under Seat Heater Installation
Does anyone know how the under seat heater, which was a factory supplied option, was configured? I have never seen any factory installation documentation on how it was installed, particularly the supply and return hoses and their routing underneath the car.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: 1940/41 Under Seat Heater Installation
The only under seat heater I've dealt with first hand was on a 47 Lincoln . Supply hose came from the drivers side head down the frame to the drivers side unit. The outlet crossed over to the passenger side via a hose under the seat then the outlet from the passenger heater back up the frame to the water pump fitting on the passenger side. Never seen a Ford with under seat heater.

Re: 1940/41 Under Seat Heater Installation
Back in 1947, my dad bought a brand new Ford with a Motorola under seat heater, a dealer option. It was quite troublesome and while on a trip, in the winter, it quit and he had a dealer yank it out and install a south wind heater.

Thanks to all who replied and thanks for the hose routing information. That's what I love about this hobby, you learn something new everyday.

We took a trip from So Cal to Salt Lake for Xmas 1940, us kids were so warm and comfy in the back seat.. In 1942 we moved to SLC. The '40 was worth twice what dad payed for it, $1,600. vs $850. so dad sold the Chevy. He bought a '34 Ford 4dr sdn, no heater, we almost froze to death in that Ford. Unfortunately/fortunately dad lost control of the Ford on an icy road, the car rolled several times in cushioning snow, no one was hurt, the Ford was a total.
