Default Rear spring alignment 49

I replaced the rear leaf springs on my 49 with a Ford 8 inch rear end. The result is crooked spring hangers. What to do to fix this?

Didn't we cover this before?

You need to rework the spring pads on the axle.

If you have the U bolts removed and the axle jacked up free of the springs, do the springs and shackles then hang in a more natural state?

I suspect you need new bushes and the proper forsd type shackles that cup the bushes.

If you can get the springs hanging naturally, check the pin to pin dimension. That dimension needs to be matched by your spring pads.

Any discrepancy will be magnified at the shackles.

Mart.

Edit: there also seems to be a foul condition between the shackles and the bumper brackets(??). There's a lot about that setup that is not happy.

As stated if the pads on the 8 inch rear end are not the same distance apart as the original '49, new hangers won't make any difference.

when i put an 8" in my 50, i removed the spring pads from the axle housing carefully with an angle grinder to cut just the welds, rehung the springs then centered the axle with the springs aligned properly then clamped the springs to the housing with the spring pads positioned properly, clamped the axle, springs and pads with the U bolts and took the car to a driveshaft maker and had them set the pinion angle and weld the pads on and make a new driveshaft from the T-5 trans to the 8" differential.....
