Sad day
At least everyone is ok but the car is totaled. Someone ran a redlight and that is all she wrote.
Thanks for all the help and advise you all have given over the past 3 years. We were so looking forward to taking it up to the Pavilions this Saturday for Barrett-Jackson/Russo & Steele weekend |

Re: Sad day
I hope the idiot had insurance. Don't let them stall you. My son was t-boned while driving a restored 56 chev pickup and they screwed around telling him they couldn't determine the value blah blah for 2 months. Meanwhile, the guy who hit him was driving a new pickup a week later. Lean HARD on the other driver's insurance company if they had ins.

Re: Sad day
OH!, that hurts. Glad you weren't hurt but the loss is still there. Looking back at your previous posts, I see you have recently put lots of work in the car. I hope the responsible party's insurance steps up.

Re: Sad day
Sorry to hear about this, and I too, am glad no one was hurt. I wonder if the car will be totaled or if it is a candidate for repair using the new '40 bodies and parts available these days. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Re: Sad day
Thanks everyone. I wasn't driving it, the owner was and he's doing ok, a little sore but ok. He's a tough guy for his age.
I'll put up some other pictures later but from the windshield back, everything is jacked. The seat shifted about 6" to the right and is sitting over the running board. He was lucky to come out of it unscathed |

Re: Sad day
Wow Chris. That hurts just to look at it. Don't know how he escaped that and did not get major injuries but glad he did. A lucky guy.

Re: Sad day
Very sad in deed.
That turns my stomach, I think your car held up pretty good though, especially compared to what new cars look like after that type of impact. Glad to hear he is OK.

Re: Sad day
Ouch! It just makes my heart ache to see it. Our old cars are way more than just metal to be bent and re-bent. There, but for the grace of God, might be Old Henry.

Re: Sad day
Diminished value? This is the whole reason I can't see investing much time (appreciable part of your life) into customizing a car. It is so frequent for a non-insured or otherwise non responsible driver to wipe out your precious possession in an instant. And you're left with a major loss financially.
In 60+ years of driving I've had 4 cars totaled from being T-boned on both sides and rear-ended twice. On a modern daily driver car one simply focuses on getting the bodies of all occupants back to health. But with a one-off non-replacement car that's a different story with different emotions. I'm even twice hit by 16 yo girls with a fresh license. Magnetic personaly maybe? Now, a handicap card is the only thing which saves me from parking lot rash which insurance doesn't cover (deductable). In parting I have to recommend all to maintain as large an 'agreed value' insurance as you can negotiate/afford with your insurance company. Chris, I'd consider a specialist such as Dan Short (FantomWorks) in Norfolk VA. I just hope you had 'agreed value' insurance and it will cover pulling the body/frame back to normal. Although it is difficult to tell everything from the picture, it looks to be completely fixable. crap crap crap. and oh crap. And do check Fantomworks.com. My all time favorite/best restorer/fixer is the Guild but thats in Ontario. Last edited by Paul Bennett; 01-18-2017 at 09:37 PM. |

Re: Sad day
f*@k...sorry to see. Glad to see you and family are Ok. Cars can be replaced, people cannot. Hope your Insurance company comes to the party and you can be "riding with the boys" (and girls) again soon.
Take care GB

Some of those cars from Brainerd are back on the road, so it's only time, money, & effort. Edit to add: Don't know how this happened, but just my observation: Where I live, if you're the first one through the intersection after the light turns green, you're smart to wait a second or so. Folks don't respect yellow lights, or red ones. And this region is LITTERED with red light, and speed cameras. Coming home from work tonight I followed a guy who blew through a red flashing (stop) light.

Re: Sad day
I hate to see this stuff, glad everyone involved is okay. Only hope there was a agreed value policy in place to replace or repair. Best of luck to you.
