Question about my ignition cable....
So I'm trying to clean up my engine compartment and it's looking really nice. For some reason my father-in-law had wrapped aluminum foil around the ignition cable (see pic) and I don't know why.
Any ideas as to why he did that or is it just another example that he thought it would be better with the foil than with out....he is no longer with us so I can't ask him why. If it's not needed I would like to remove it. Thanks Nick

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
I wonder if he was trying to seal the joint from moisture? I have never seen this done before so it is not a common "fix" for some problem. I am with Vic, take it off and see what is under it.

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
What is the armored cable made of? Perhaps he thought it could not endure the heat of the head. Doesn't look like others I've seen.

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
So that's interesting, it is definitely gold in color so it sounds like it's not a Ford part?
I was looking on Snyder's and Bert's websites and all they had were cables for popout switches and mine does not have a popout switch. It kind of surprises me because I know he always tried to use original parts. Maybe I should leave well enough alone and not mess with it

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
It looks to me as being one of those shower conduits usually found over plastic hoses on a shower fixture.

There is a fake look alike pop out switch available which is of good quality. This can be bought with or without the cable...I recommend doing both |

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
I agree with Mitch.
People have enough problems with ignition and wiring, without using something totally unknown. |

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
The aluminum makes for better reception. As a young child we had it all over the rabbit ears so I know it works.

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
Look closely at the angle of the screw in boss, and the angle of the flexible cable.I think you will find the cable is not really connected to the boss, and he used foil tape to hold it in place. If it's quality foil tape it might really be a chore to remove.

Re: Question about my ignition cable....
Thanks guys, I'm going to get I need of the guys in the club to help me swap that out, after looking in Les Andrews book it is probably above my abilities to do it without screwing it up.
Also, that cable has been on the car along the, I found some pics of the the engine I took about 15 years ago and it is exactly the same, looks like the foil has been replaced but it is the same cable. Thanks for all the help. Nick
