Default Craigslist,, rant

Does anyone else find Craigslist to be as big of a PITA to use as I do ?? I'm looking for decent 30-31 chassis and I've had it with Craigslist..

I have had good luck with CL. I do not know the reasons behind what happened to you but I have gotten lots of great stuff off of CL at cheap prices. Frames show up out here quite a bit for around 250.00.

I also have found some good buys on craigslist. I wish the had an easier search for a wider area though. A watch list like ebay would also be handy.

I don't like when the seller doesn't list his phone number, because they rarely email me back.

Exactly.. I find it a real PITA to look at each city/small area and have to type in the info of what you want every time and then not be able to easily contact the seller.. I would have thought there would be a few decent rolling chassis' in the north east area..
Ebay and Hemmings seems to be a easier for a dunce like me to wander around in..

The Fresno Craigslist is a festering cesspool of meth addicts, gang members and people who cant formulate a coherent sentence.

PatrickL,
Try this tool when you use Craig's list. http://www.searchtempest.com/
It lets you search withing specific distance parameters. You may find it helpful.

There is also www.claz.org with similar features. It used to be the old Craigslook but now it also includes other internet ads as well.

Craigslist can be useful but, it does require A LOT of patience......advertisers that don't leave phone numbers yet never check their email but once every two weeks,....never call or email you back......never delete old ads..... etc, etc......

It's better than ebay. It's better than the old days when I spent an hour or two scouring the want ads in the Sunday paper. Why is it that when a search on the internet takes a WHOLE MINUTE we go ballistic? And I think we all do it!
Remember the "good" old days and then the internet sounds pretty good.

I was glad to hear you ditched the idea of putting a 30-31 Roadster on a 28...good move.

Also try a WANTED ad in craigslist. I did that last year, when I was looking for a 1956 Evinrude 30 H.P., and I got a few calls. One was from a guy that had a 1955 Evinrude 25 H.P., which I bought and like even more than the 1956.

General commentary here is realistic. You're dealing with people...............C/L, ebay, Hemmings, even here on the Barn...............they come in all shapes, sizes, and abilities to communicate. Some people can describe well and accurately, some don't have a clue how to identify what they have.

My bride and I have a universl description for it......"It looked good on the kitchen table!"
The original reference is to garage sale signs....you've seen them......a Sparks Notes version of "War and Peace" written in blue fine point pen on a 7" paper plate tacked to a light pole. Nobody driving bye at 35 mph could ever read anything on it, especially from 30-50 feet away......................but it made sense on the kitchen table when they printed it.

Craigslist works fine in most cases, but there are flakes out there on both sides of the equation. What amazes me........and it's just as annoying here on the Barn ads.....is that sellers don't take advantage of the ability to post pictures. Sure, I know what a (for instance) steering wheel looks like, but a decent picture of the one offered would give me an idea of what the seller's idea of "good condition" is before spending time driving across the county (or emailing across country) to see that he's blind in one eye and can't see with the other.

I agree with Tom about wider search and watch list. I found my car on craigslist.
