Working on engine bearings.
Along the lines of keeping valves in order, the same goes for rod caps and main caps. Rod caps have to go back on the same rods and the same way they came off. Mains same thing you do not want to mix them up. I like to mark them before I take them apart.
One time in my Dads garage a long time ago a young man came in with his engine in pieces. All the caps were in a pile. I was not a happy man. It was a Chev 265 V8, we had a little talk> I seen him about 40 years later and he told me he learned a good lesson that day. |

Re: Working on engine bearings.
Yep. The rod caps have the dippers open end pointing to the camshaft. The front and center main caps have a little diamond that points toward the camshaft. Or is supposed to, I have seen them the other way, and if that is the case, re-install them the way they came out. I always number them with magic marker and an arrow toward the front.

Re: Working on engine bearings.
Both dipper, and pinch bolt has to be pointed to the cam side.

Rod pinch bolts are a Chevy feature. We are talking Ford here...

Re: Working on engine bearings.
I think Model T rods have pinch bolts on the small end.

Re: Working on engine bearings.
I am showing my ignorance about the Model T, then. I did a lot of messing around with early Chevs before I was saved by the Model A.
