Default 1939 pickup firewall insulation

I've been stripping my cab of everything to prepare for paint. It had firewall insulation in it. Was this original to the vehicle or was this something added? Thanks

Not certain what it was exactly you'd removed. There was originally a rather thick pad glued to a dense cardboard insulator. The pad was perhaps 5/8" thick.
Is that what you'd removed?

I got my one piece firewall insulator from Joes Antique part#75-700770-1 for 37-39 trucks. It is a thick molded ABS plastic textured panel that has the "chicken scratch" texture.

This one fit perfect in my cab but I did have to get the longer 7/8" insulator studs part# 48-7001670-A due to the thicker design.

I also had to open up the holes through the insulator padding so the cab choke/throttle rods moved freely.

As far as prepping for paint, tap all your floorboard screws and put some 1/4"-20 cheapo bolts in those holes before you begin, you won't have to remove primer/paint later.

The insulators are made by Quiet Ride in Stockton, Ca. Almost all of the V-8 vendors carry their product.

Hello, I am not finding an answer to a question That's most likely been asked. Does anyone make original type cardboard firewall pad not the ABS ??

I'm not sure if they are still made, but some time back the repos were made out of fiberglass rather than ABS.
