Default '40 springloaded accelerator linkage

I am having a problem installing the 91A-2725 accel. mech. that is bolted to firewall(2 bolts) between the floor pedal and the carburator.

the spring is so tight I cannot install with spring on, so I thought maybe I could bolt it on without spring loaded and hook up spring afterward. what am I doing wrong? pics included.

while working alone, i used masking tape to hold it up 'till I bolted it on and I used masking tape on the spring to protect the paint.

what (all) am I doing wrong?

I receive instructions graciously.......

thanks,

fordman

You are not doing anything wrong. When attempting to install this assembly by yourself, it can be a bit of trouble. It is easier to have someone place it through the cowl while another working inside the car starts threading the nuts.

I finally got it installed by following 'charles in east texas' suggestion to install passenger side nut first and work it around until you can get driver side in. I started without the spring compressed; after the pass. nut was installed I compressed the spring then put the driver nut in.

charles in east texas is in another version of this thread.

i regret the mess of multiple copy of the problem; it started with pic probs and cockpit problems

your words were an encouragment to keep trying

thanks,

How do you get new spring on linkage. Does linkage come apart some how or do you slide the spring on?
