Default steering column tube ,changing from bushing upper bearing

I want to replace my steering tube upper bushing to a bearing ,I cant find the records on the search feature here on the barn, I had it all written down and can't locate my notes on the swap. will someone please post the info. again? as I remember there was a hardware store replacement bearing number and brand name. it is a 46 ford steering tube.
Thanks!

If you go to "search" and plug in "column bearing" you will find several posts on this subject with several bearing selections for this upper bearing. I'll post one that will reference other posts where I included some pictures.....

Getting Henrys old bushing out of the top of the column tube can be a challenge. I have had some that I had to remove the column tube and go in the tube from the steering box end with a piece of pipe and drive the old bushing out. One column tube had three bushings, one on top of the other. I guess the po's just kept driving new bushings in on top of the old because that was easier than removing the old bushing.

That's one way of doing it, driving the old ones deeper, I bought a replacement bushing for a 36 column and when I put it in it fell down the column , obviously a poor copy, so I just put the original Ford one back in. I was only replacing it because I had the column apart.

I've always used the ones from Ford. I don't think thsy still have them , but C and G Parts carry them and they work well.

2 possible sources;
The post I read a ways back for '40 Ford, gave a McMaster Carr part #8258K22. Described as a double sealed, grooved, precision steel needle roller bearing for 3/4 diameter shaft. $18.41 a ways back.
If you are looking for an NOS one, check with Fred at So Side, or Ron at Dennis Carpenter NOS.

With the exception of fastners, I believe most McMC products are also made in the USA. They usually can't give you the actual Mfg name, but they are mostly USA products. I ordered a 7/16 flare fitting crows foot, it was very reasonable, and when I got it was Snap-On USA. Can't beat that.
