Default Adjustment Wedge Removal

I have a 36 PU with mechanical brakes.

How do you remove the brake adjustment wedge from the backing plate?

Do you remove the cap from the opposite side? How is this cap removed? It appears that the housing is swedge a little over the cap along with staking.

Thanks, Norm

Norm, The adjuster cranks in from the backside, and pushes the dustcap off on the inside. Sounds like you're about to install floaters? The dustcap can remain off, but you'll need to cap off the backside where the adjuster was. The best way to do this is to cut the adjuster off using a cutting wheel. Screw it back in from the back, and use a dab of thread seal to hold it in place till the next time you need to adjust your brakes.

Thanks Alan. I'm not installing floaters yet. I'm changing the king pins and bushings and decided to clean up the backing plates. I media blasted the plates and now need to clean out the adjuster housings. One step leads to another and another..... I have had my truck a year now and I'm starting on the To-Do list.
