35-36 Engine pans
I am working on a 1936 Ford touring two door sedan, all my air deflector panels were missing when I purchased the car. I have sense bought and installed the lower grill pannel and the one below the radiator. How important are the engine pans that go between the engine and frame rails? I imagine they are all important for proper cooling air flow. Thanks!

Re: 35-36 Engine pans
I have a '35 and a '36. I'm a believer in having those pans installed, as you stated, for cooling efficiency.
The one that goes on the side with the steering box requires removal of the pitman arm to install/remove which caused many to get removed and never put back. Similar situation with the battery cover.

Re: 35-36 Engine pans
I have never had them on my RHD 36 in the 48 years I have owned It. Has never run hot.

Re: 35-36 Engine pans
They always seem to be the first thing that gets tossed aside on a EFV8, how much difference they make as far as cooling I haven't a clue and other here will know more than me.....I will say from a"judging" standpoint and "authenticity" stand point, if that is what you are trying to achieve....they are one of IF not the first thing I look for when "smoking" a car over!!!!!! IF they've taken care of such an obvious detail then you can bet the rest of the car is pretty well presented as it should be!!!! AND Once again a shout out to KiwinUS (Tony) as he helped tremendously in fulfilling a 25 plus year quest for some 35 right hand drive engine tins a few years back!!!! Thank you ever so much for all of your help and efforts!!!!

Re: 35-36 Engine pans
I may be wrong on this but my understanding is the fan is suppose to pull air through the radiator. Thereby cooling the radiator contents by advection. If the pans are not there the fan takes the easy way out and pulls the air up from below which is counterproductive to cooling the radiator contents.

The two grille splash pans for '35, and the '36 splash pan/radiator shell apron (3rd picture), actually had 3 functions; a guide for hand crank, a splash pan, and air deflection to help cooling. The engine pans for '35 & '36 (2nd picture) that were mounted to frame in the lower area of engine compartment, probably did more to prevent dirt debris and water from splashing up into the engine compartment than in helping with cooling, IMO. PS...if anyone here is in need of any of the '35-'36 engine pans shown in these three pictures, send me a PM. I have extras of most all of these that I am willing to sell.

Re: 35-36 Engine pans
The pans were an integral part of the cooling system. Do any of you guys think Ol' Henry would have spent the money on them if they were not deemed necessary?
Somewhere in the midst of my literature I have an authentic factory engineering drawing that clearly depicts the air circulation beneath the hood of a '40 deluxe. It's interesting for sure.

Re: 35-36 Engine pans
I'd love a set of the engine pans that would go between the motor and frame. Feel free to message me if you have some

Finding needed RHD parts is one of the big challenges in the hobby.

36crazy, you can have the pans, but you'll have to send me an email address. I'm not qualified to send PMs. my email is in my profile. bob Last edited by 36v8; 05-26-2021 at 08:58 PM. |
