Default Remove Trans from 21 stud 36 flattie

I swear I saw a thread about getting a stock trans off of a 21 stud block when the trans is not coming off. Looks like I got all the bolts out of the bellhousing, I took the motor and trans out of the car. It moves a little bit around the flange area. I put a short pipe on the clutch actuator and can rock it back and forth and the trans flange and bellhousing float a little. Am I missing something? Starter is out. Seems like it oughta go.

If you have a pilot bearing instead of a bushing, the input shaft could be frozen on the bearing. Get two longer bolts (or studs) to support the trans but allow the trans to move back out. See if you can wedge some large screw drivers between the mating surface to help move the trans back.

sounds like the clutch disk is frozen to the fly wheel.ore the trans shaft or pilot bearing remove the oil pan then loosen the pressure plate bolts. if still stuck drive a wedge between the disk & flywheel

I had the pleasure of removing a 4 speed from a 59ab where the clutch disc was stuck to the flywheel. I had to stick my hand through the inspection cover and remove the bolts that held the front bearing retainer to the transmission case. I was then able to separate the 2 pieces.

After triple checking that all the bolts are out, See if you can look through the inspection cover and get sight of the clutch disc on the input shaft. If it looks tight on there it might be possible to get a drift in there and knock the disk forward and get the trans off. I had to do this once getting a V8-60 box off.

Okay, great advice, couldn’t get back to it today but I’ll be messing around with it tomorrow. Thanks all!

Got it, pilot bearing was stuck, had to unbolt clutch basket through inspection plate and then it came apart easy. That bearing is really, really stuck on the end of that input shaft.
The bearing is kinda bad so maybe heat just stuck it on there really good.
