Default O.T. dumb question

How come boat tail speedsters are shaped like the front of a boat?

Aermotor it's aero dynamic.

Your NASA found a %32 average reduction in drag by using a boattail on a square box type vehicle.

Google "NASA boattail square box"

That would be NOVEL, the BACK end of a BOAT, grafted onto the BACK end of a Model A--------

32%, OMG !
You'd think that IF that much reduction, that a 'boattail' should be also added to the front ...no
Just think...64% less drag. Hm, I could most likely run my full fendered A at the hill climbs...

This is a fine example of a boat tail but the boat is going backward.

John,

That is why it is called a "boat tail" speedster.

"Boat front" or "boat head" speedster sounds odd......

Our speedster was built using boat construction methods and has a teak deck and cockpit trim, all very boat-like.
I was even looking for miniature ships vents to put on the cowl.
There is a vintage tradition of boat tailed bodies and French coachbuilders in particular produced beautiful skiff bodies in wood, often varnished with the copper rivets featured.
Whilst building the body for our car passers-by would ask when was the launching date?

For hill climbs you'll need your best pointy hat with a heavy duty chin strap.
The tremendous suction will make you lots lighter.

Historically, in the early 1920s French coachbuilders such as Labourdette produced stunning cars such as the one in the photo.
Interestingly, if you look up early launches and yachts, you will find some had sterns like that on the car in the photo, and so whilst boat tailed cars might appear to have the bow at the back, traditionally it was a copy of a stern.

Isn't it a combined term referring to the car and a boat? That is, the car's tail looks like a boat - hence "boat tail"

The first car to drive around our country was a boat tail. Must have helped somewhat.
