Default 292 Y Block and T10 Trans

I have a 1962 292Y Block that has the Ford O Matic Trans. I was able to get the passenger car bell housing with a T10 Transmission that came off another 292. However the seller did not have the pressure plate and clutch set up. I was wondering if I should use a standard pressure plate and clutch with this transmission? I know I would have to change the flywheel, and Mummerts seems to offer them. However, their kit is for a T5.

Any thoughts.

Mummert’s flywheel should be fine, it’s probably drilled for a couple bolt patterns. John will tell you if you call. I have aluminum flywheels in a couple light cars with T-5’s, I wouldn’t use one in a full size car unless I had really short gears in back.

I’m really partial to Centerforce pressure plates because they have good pressure with low effort. The clutch disc will need to match your input spline on plate diameter.

I have a Centerforce dual friction disc and pressure plate on my 54 (312 and top loader) and it works very well.

The shaft diameter and spline count on the input shaft of your T-10 will tell what clutch disks will fit. I assume this is an early T-10 since it was from another 292.

I will check the numbers on the casing, as well the number of splines. I was not sure if I had to get a 11 inch or a 10.5 for it, I am sure Mummerts will have an idea for sure. I will probably get his flywheel and get the clutch and pressure plate separate.

One of the reasons I wanted to get the right bellhousing and trans makes it easier for me to put together. I do not mind solving problems, but sometimes you make your own. The throw out bearing is present so I can check the numbers on it to get a duplicate.
