Well, what I think I'm seeing, is the blower for the heater. Frees up leg room in the front seat compartment. Nothing unusual there.

That is good to know. Seems odd to have the inlet open to the engine bay.

You didn't say but it looks like a pickup truck that someone has installed a non-stock blower on.

It's supposed to look like the picture Tinker posted. Somebody jury rigged your set-up. Your blower is upside down and at an odd angle, and looks like someone eliminated the plenum and mounted the blower right onto the heater core air inlet.
The blower air inlet should have a flex hose on it going into the fender where it picks up fresh air from the radiator support area. More than likely a lot of parts missing.

Your car also may have been built as a heater delete car, and someone later tried to hook up a heater.

Don't think so, as I recall pickup trucks do not have fresh air vents running inside the fenders. The squirrel cage is inside the firewall with just the motor in the engine compartment.

Depending on the year, the OP pic looks correct for a recirculating heater - guessing mid-50s. There were some 'Fresh Air' versions in the 48-52 models with the intake above the PS headlight and the tube under the fender.

Thanks for all the inputs. I didn't think it was stock, but just curious if anyone had seen this type of setup before. It has the magic air heater core box under the dash on the inside. It is a 55 F100. I am going to move over to the correct section for my vehicle. Thanks again.

I had a 55 F100 that had the same setup. Someone mounted a 50 Ford car heater. It worked ok until I found a stock heater.
