engine drain plug washer
Would like to know if I can find the washer size at my local hardware store or do I have to pay $.025 a piece + $13.00 shipping from Snyder's? I noticed oil dripping from the drain plug and the pan bolts are tight and it is dry up there around the pan so I assume it is the washer on the drain plug that is bad. Thanks, Jim

Re: engine drain plug washer
Why not drain the oil and take the plug to your local parts house and get a washer to fit?

Re: engine drain plug washer
If you don't want to pay that much freight (I wouldn't) you could leave it till your next order. A little yellow Teflon tape on the thread of your current plug should keep the oil off your garage floor in the meantime.

Re: engine drain plug washer
I would be hesitant on just using anything that fits. It has to seal under pressure and not break or it will leak.

Try to find a Land Rover dealer somewhere. The old Buick engines that they used for so many years is an exact fit. Can't be too $$.

Re: engine drain plug washer
Why can't Snyders send it in a regular envelope. That would be the same cost as mailing a letter.

Re: engine drain plug washer
I wouldn't use rubber unless you're sure the oil won't eat it. I've purchased some copper oil drain plug gaskets at the local hardware store before and they seem to work just as good as the originals.

Re: engine drain plug washer
I fabricate my washer using the plastic from of an empty oil bottle. I also do the same for the radiator cap and gas tank cap. The bottle plastic is very durable, and it seals well.

Re: engine drain plug washer
Perhaps check the drain plug mating surface on the pan for flatness and no scoring ?
