Good straight forward advice. Now get to I! Wayne

Seems to me unless you have a very smooth, likely new rims, spending ~$28:

to protect $100-180+ dollar tires is just common sense...

Thanks I was watching on an I phone, and didn't see the stem.
Anyone done it this way? I've got a set of goodyears to install, so I might try it.

I don't a think flat flap in a drop center rim is a good idea. Those are meant for a straight wheel.I have seen flaps that were molded to conform to a drop center rim though, and I have found them in the A before.A few years ago I was working on a 31 Chrysler.Same size tires as the A uses.He asked if I would dismount the tires and see what I thought. He had gotten a set of new tires mounted about 5000 miles ago.One day a stem sheared. He had it fixed,a week later another one sheared. Then another. All of us that looked at it guessed, surmised, dreamed up,and speculated, was the fact that the flat sided flap did not drop into the well, and we did find there was about a 3/4 inch gap between the flap and the center of the rim.Logic brought us to that conclusion, the stem stuck out over one inch more with the flap removed. If the flap does try to drop into the rim when the tube is aired up,what happens to the outer edges of that flap?Does it tear?Wrinkle?Threw the flaps away, zero troubles since.

Neat! Wonder if that guy is still on the job!

Good friend at Deere used to mount the steer tires for JD Combines. He developed carpal tunnel real bad after about two years of doing like that guy in the video.

My rims were quite pitted and rough. Sanded them the best I could and gave them a good coat of por-15. They came out soomth and as slipery as snort on a door knob.

There are various "tricks" that have been used to install tubed tires including garbage bags and zip ties, but the video below just uses common sense and some soapy water and it worked fine on my 21" wheels.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i31hv7t-Ysc

I did make a padded (with a foam workout tile) platform with a hole it it to make it easy to work from the back side of the wheel. I also found the use of the clamps shown in the picture invaluable to hold the tire on one side as I went around the work on the other. Without the clamps there was a good chance I would loose ground on one side while gaining ground on the other.

Only thing I will add is I use WD40, spray on flap (once installed) and the tire will almost fall on the rim.
FYI
