Starter Switch Questions 34 Ford
The rod from the floor button to the starter switch is threaded into the starter switch. Should the rod be unscrewed before the bolts to the switch are undone or the other way around? Once its unscrewed from the switch is the rod free to be pulled up through the car floor?
Finally, can the switch be rebuilt? Is that something Skip would do? Thanks, Tom |

Re: Starter Switch Questions 34 Ford
Disconnect the battery.Disconnect the cables from the 2 terminals on the switch.Unscrew the rod and pull it up thru the floor. Unscrew the 2 bolts that secure it to the steering box and remove the switch. The copper bar across the terminals inside might be burned thru,if so replace the switch.Non rebuildable IMO.I see NOS ones all the time on EBAY for around $20 or contact Fred at Southside Obsolete in MN as he might have a NOS one.
Here is one currently on EBAY of 15 listed https://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-1934-F...UAAOSwedNfFi23 Last edited by deuce lover; 11-01-2020 at 12:57 PM. |

If you want to reduce the load on it, you can wire in a 6V starter solenoid to actually carry the switch load and use the stock switch to only trip the solenoid. This will make it last a lot longer, though I have been surprised on how long they can last.

Re: Starter Switch Questions 34 Ford
The foot starter switch will work just as well as a solenoid will. And if a solenoid is fitted and holes drilled and cables fitted and altered ?? who wants to mess up a nice original car by doing that. Not me for sure. The old foot switch can usually be repaired easily or a NOS one fitted. Regards, Kevin.

My father once told me anything made by man can be repaired or made again-and he's right it's just what it costs to do it that is the kicker. Fortunately NOS starter switches seem to be one of the most available parts on Ebay -Karl

Re: Starter Switch Questions 34 Ford
Thanks everyone. In the end I didn't have to change the switch. Yesterday while checking connections I cleaned a lot of them including the two on the starter switch and the battery cables ect. When I was finished low and behold the motor turned over. After a couple of tries the motor started and purred like it always has.
I do learn a little more each time and so grateful to everyone here on the Barn. |
