Default Model B trans adapter

Hey guys , is there anyone out there that makes a transmission adapter for the 32-34 four cylinder to a 39-48 ford 3 speed . I know there are a few companys that sell them for Models A engine's 28-31 . does anyone have pics or info on how to make the model A pan fit . It looks pretty strait forward on what I have to do . Thanks guys

Im pretty sure only 32-39 gears are inter-changable. Ive never heard of anyone using the 1940-48 trans in an A.

The later 32-48 gears won't fit in an "A" transmission. But they will fit in the "B" transmission.

Thanks guy , I'm pulling the flathead v8 out of my model T roadster and replacing it with a warmed over model B engine . It has a 39 style trans in it and I don't want to pull the trans . Thanks again

2 choices, pull the trans and put the 40-48 gears in the B case, use the '39 shifter, or cut the back of the B pan off and use the adapter kit for the A block. Apparently the car has clutch and brake linkage already installed so I would recommend the late gears in the B case.

Yes run the later gears. I ran 46 ford truck open drive and did not have any troubles.

All of the gears interchange but the 1940-48 trans was a side shifter (except for the open drive trucks) and generally not used due to the shift linkage required.

I don't think he has a B trans to stuff the gears into. Looks like you will have to modify the B pan and go with the A adapter that Jim and the others have mentioned

Hi Guys,
I'm also looking for an adapter to mate a 1932-34 model B transmission to a Model A engine.
Any thoughts ?

I did a search for an adapter for the Model B motor to a 39 trans and the one cling's list and the other ones offer is for the model a block and not the b block. My question is does someone make an adapter for the b block.
On a quick inspection It doesn't look like the 39 gear set will go in a b trans.
I have an Murphy overhead conversion on a model b block We are trying to find transmission to run behind it, and if there is an adapter out there it would save some time on getting it up and running.

You could remove the lower part of the bellhousing that is on the "B" pan, then use the "A" adaptor. Drill out the welds in the lower bellhousing. Another way, use later gears in the 32-34 box, which are what is in mine.

Get the bottom bellhousing piece that Rex Rogers (in one of the previous posts) might remove from his "B" pan and weld it to your "A" pan. You'll also need the upper "B" bellhousing.

I don't think that the pans are a direct interchange without some modification. So whatever way you decide to go, there will be some work involved. Nothing is an easy bolt-on.

Thanks for the information. We have two projects in the shop right now one is 32 pickup with a model B motor and we are recommissioning the truck and plan on keeping everything stock. I think We will see about putting the later gearset in the model b case for that one. The other project is more of a hamb build and i'm still working on a plan for that.
Once we get the gear set figured out i will post some photos of them in the b trans.
