Help to identify a 1934 Ford Part.
I need help identifying the part in the photos. I have no idea what it does or how important it is to my car. Its located on the underside on the right just behind the front spring.
In one photo you can see a type of silicone sealant that was used to keep the bolt (or whatever it is) in place. Its a bit of a long story as to how and why the sealant is there but I need to know from the Barner experts what this part is. To me it looks like some kind of a plug that allows access to something else. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tom |

Its not a plug but the motor mount bolt that goes thru the frame.

Sure looks like one of the motor mount bolts.

Hi there, That "sealant" is the remains of the lower rubber engine mount that appears to be missing. Time to buy a complete set of new upper and lower motor mounts for both sides of the engine I think. Regards, Kevin.

Here are 2 pictures of the early Ford V8 Engine Mounts showing how it is bolted together and a second picture showing the individual parts. It appears that most Reproduction Kits that are on the market today don't have the large head on the main bolt, but a small one. The one fitted to tomkc1 34 Ford is an original with the large head, like the ones pictured above. Maybe tomkc1 just needs to replace the rubbers? |

Re: Help to identify a 1934 Ford Part.
As usual the response time was outstanding. Thank you everyone for your input. 51 Merc-CT I made a copy of your diagram and will put it in the "archives" for my kids when they inherit the car.
Now I know what it is but still have to figure out about the sealant. I don't believe it was something that has been there for many years and I don't know where it came from. It seems as though when the engine gets hot the stuff oozes out kind of stringy like. I don't think the rubber engine mount would do that. I only noticed it happening maybe three or four years ago. Just before I brought the car down to FL I had a garage in MA change the oil and lubricate it. I hope someone didn't mistake the mount for the oil drain plug and try to take it off. Thanks again guys. This site is so helpful. Tom |

Re: Help to identify a 1934 Ford Part.
Ignore the large cup washer in Trevor's photos as they were used only on some early '32s and on '35s plus.
The oozing "sealant" is likely the rubber of the lower insulator melting because of advanced deterioration. |
