Default 1929 Coupe Sheet Metal Patch Panels

My ‘29 coupe will need sheet metal repair in the lower rear body section and around the upper body over the rear fender. Are patch panels for these locations available ? Also, what’s a good source of suitable sheet metal for other body repairs ?

Many thanks - Jim

Macs Auto sells them. Not sure if they have what you're looking for though.

Lower patch panels for body sill attach areas are common rust out spots so the body sills, lower quarter patches, and wheel well area patches are available. The area above the fender is not a common rust place as long as the car body hasn't been laying on it side or wreck damaged. You might try Bert's Model A Parts for used panels. Fortunately all of the 28/29 coupes had the same quarter panels to include the Sport Coupe, Standard Coupe, and Special Coupe bodies.

If you check out Vince's "Model A Ford Garage" site, it has a complete tear down of a 1930 Coupe body. Of course they are not the same but they are similar and it's a good way to repair a severely corroded body.

Sheet metal fabricators are not all the same in quality so you might pose a question if you have doubts. A lot of stuff comes from Brookville Roadster but not all. If the price is real cheap then the quality is likely not very good. Howell's sheet metal has ups and downs so it's one to be careful about. If they make something you want, it's best to see if they have it on flea-pay. It can take them forever to make stuff but if it's on flea-pay then it should be ready to ship. Rootleib stuff is good but I don't know how much stuff they make.

Ford made a lot of their own steel back in the day. Most of it was draw quality type steel. A person can buy it in sheet form as long as it matches the American Standard Gauge thickness of the OEM part. A1008 AKDQ cold rolled steel is what I use for forming.

I’ve found 19 gauge works best but not plentiful
20 gauge is fairly common at most steel yards
Or, can be ordered but likely need to be ordered 2x2 or 2x4; much bigger gets cost prohibitive
As to patch panels they’re available but in much varying qualities
