Default Green Engine Paint

Now that many suppliers are out of stock or indicate they cannot mail/ship cans of spray paint, is there a brand of paint available on a local basis that matches up with what we used to have readily available?
Is there a known brand (say Krylon) that has a color code available that matches? or do we just have to wait until that container ship arrives in California from Bangladesh?

Try some of the places that sell Model -T parts. The last couple of years of the "T" had the same engine color.

Local paint stores may can mix and even put in spray can.
Go to their chip book and get close.
Might be a bit pricy.

Thanks Gary! I just bought some from them (I was getting worried as no one I knew had it in stock!)

When I bought my first can of engine paint, I foresaw that one day, I would need another so I painted the label (brush on paint, not spray can). I took that label to the local hardware and asked them to match it. Now I have another litre of engine paint near enough to the same colour for a fraction of the price.

Something to keep in mind about engine paint...even if you were have the right color mixed up for you, common rattle can paint will not adhere to the metal for very long. The difference is the chemical formulation and the amount of solids in the paint that can endure high temperature without burning off. Bill Hirsch and others have this special brew and when applied to a clean surface, will last quite a long time.

Snyder's paint has worked just fine for all the A engines we have put together.
Side note: The Model T engine color for the last few years it was made, was not even close to the A color. It was a more like a gray with green tint. Before that if the T engine got any paint, it was Black.

There are a lot of variations on older model As. I bought a couple cans from Mac's some years ago and it so happened it matched my existing color exactly, I just touched up the engine. It is really nice paint and has stayed on well.

as Mcgarrett mentions...... how does hardware store paint hold up to heat?????

The Bill Hirsch paint is really nice, extremely high solids content, and no primer required or suggested. I wish it wasn't so glossy as a more satin finish appeals to me. But he advertises "high gloss" and that is indeed what you get. (I use the brush on, maybe the spray is less glossy).

Out here in the Peoples Republic of California, you can't get oil-based hardware store paint easily any more. And what it is, is all a special low-VOC formulation. I would not trust that stuff on my engine.

I have used KBS coatings for engine paint and it is outstanding in quality. I have not used the Ford green but other colors.
