Default Info for ‘42 Super Deluxe Sedan

I was just able to locate the ‘42 Super Deluxe sedan that was purchased new by my wife’s great-grandfather. Is is currently owned by his 85 year old grandson! He parked it about 20 years ago. Unfortunately, it was parked outside with no shelter or protection.

I am seeking advice on good suppliers for various restoration parts as well as any salvage yards in Kansas or surrounding states that may have parts cars.

Thanks!

Welcome to Ford Barn. You will find this a great Forum.
The above pictures is of a 1942 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor Sedan from the original Sales Brochure.
You did not mention if it was a Fordor or Tudor Sedan?
Please add some photos of your new project.

Being retired I often search Craigslist auto parts. I ran across this yard in Kansas advertising in Missoula Montana among other Midwest areas. Click on the link below to access it. I know nothing about them but at least it's a possible lead. Can you post some pics? There is also another informative thread active here on the Ford barn posted by user 1942deluxe. There is very good info in that thread that will help you. Welcome to the Barn!

Welcome to the Ford Barn! I'm the guy with the 1942 Ford Deluxe coupe. The thread is under " 1942 Ford deluxe coupe project". I started on mine a little over a year ago. At this time it is running, stopping and drivable after sitting since 1976. I think I might be able to shorthand some things for you. My regular email is [email protected] and my cell# is 574-702-3673. 42's are interesting cars. Some things carried over from 1941 and some things carried over into 1946 while some items are 1942 only. I've been able to find a surprising amount of NOS parts for mine. That it was your wife's Great grandfathers car...priceless. We love pictures!

Welcome! Having put a '46 back on the road (which is the younger sister to your '42) as a near complete hack mechanic, you'll perhaps have a better go of things.

A couple of specific points:
6 volt systems are perfectly fine for use. A well maintained system and sound wiring are essential.

Floor pan and rocker replacement panels are available from https://absolutesheetmetal.com/1941-...ord-car-parts/

Use this site and seller: vanpeltsales.com

Hood alignment info: http://marksfordparts.com/

Assuming your seals are tired, consider: https://www.steelerubber.com/

I found glass online- the local glass shop couldn't get close on price.

Rubber parts for mounts and such that aren't available from Steele, seemed best from Dennis Carpenter in NC.

Enjoy the project. Family legacy vehicles are great.

BTW, be certain to think about the proper hat to wear when driving this beauty.

Among the best sources for parts, especially those that are hard to find are "Third Gen Automotive" (35fordtn) on this forum and "Southside Obsolete" (barnfind08), also on this forum.

Seeing that we're on the subject of 42 Fords I'm on the hunt for the trunk handle base for the 42 Ford. I have the stamped trim piece, but I need the piece special to the 42.

If you can locate a copy of the 2017, July-August issue of the V-8 Times written by Fred Killian the 1941-1942 advisor for the V-8 Club, there is an article on the 1942 ford. It lists all the unique changes made to the 1942 model year. It's a pretty rare vehicle, very few in the Club.

Thanks for the lead! Great Bend is 90 minutes west of me, so not too far. By the way, I added some pics to the original post.

I also have a YouTube channel focused on finding vintage cars and pickups on farms and in small towns (hence "Farm Finds"). I've been wanting to do a "Junk Yard Crawl" and this salvage yard looks like a good place for that. Too bad it's so late in the year. Maybe I'll try to arrange a day trip there if we have a nice day in the next couple weeks.

Fantastic! I'll check out the thread.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's, my focus has always been on muscle cars (I've been driving my 70 Chevelle for over 30 years and have owned several more). Consequently, I don't have much knowledge of WW2 era vehicles. Did Ford shut down car and truck production to support the war effort from 42-46? I knew the 1942 production numbers were significantly lower, but I haven't had a chance to dig into the history.

By the way, I added some photos to the original post.

I'll get in contact with you by email, but it will probably be after the holidays.

l bought one at auction on a very low bid, (the only bid) and was able to talk to the son of the original owner. I think he said there were only around 20,000 of them made and most went to the US Army as staff cars. Very rare, keep it original.
I was lucky as it had very little Minnesota Rust and was driveable.

It is the upper left car in my avatar.

Hey John, I have a newbie question… how can you identify a Deluxe vs a Super Deluxe?

Farm Finds, a Deluxe uses the 41 Super Deluxe bumpers where the Super Deluxe uses the bumper design carried forward to 1946. Super also has mouldings on the fenders and has the trim around the windows. Horn button uses a horn ring. Clock was standard on the Super Deluxe as well as a passenger armrest. Your car is a Super Deluxe.

It was $1800 back in 2017. My friend pulled the heads before trying to start it and it had a mouse nest that he had to clean up before it was ready to drive around the farm.

I don't feel too bad about mine. The asking price was $1,000, but I bought it for $300
