Default Identify these Mounting holes in 34 frame

In the process of planning brake line route from MC to front left wheel on my 34 pickup but curious if someone can tell me what these 2 holes are used for originally. See pictures. They are located on left hand crossmember. Thinking about using one of the holes for a brake line clip.

They are the manual light switch mount ,redundant for your application

Kit from Early V8 garage (Richard Lacy). Just bought the basic kit that includes MC and hand brake mounts and hw.

The brake light switch attaches to the brake/clutch pedal bracket in a LHD single brake cross shaft system, not to the X member. For the RHD system and double cross shaft systems, LHD or RHD, those holes are for the brake light switch.

Yes DavidG I knew that the brake light switch attaches to the brake/clutch pedal bracket and I am planning to use that location for a mechanical switch for my hydraulic brakes.

That brings me to another question, does anyone have a recommendation on a source for a good reliable mechanical switch?

I found one on Joes Antique auto site, Stop Light Switch, BB-13480, and was wondering if it will work.

I have to ask the question - why would you want a mechanical switch when you're putting hydraulic brakes on it? There are countless pressure activated switches that are easily instaled, have no linkage adjustment, have no springs, etc..

Would be the way I'd go.

Well I think I read somewhere that the pressure activated ones weren’t as reliable..? Do they come in 12v? I assume what you are talking about are the ones that thread into the master cylinder banjo bolt? I am open to the easiest option. I’m new to setting up hydraulic brakes from scratch.

The switch shown in the photo is typical of cheap aftermarket switches then and now as it lacks the brass bushings that the plunger rides in with an original switch of that type. I second B&S's question.

Just buy one of these - and plumb it in wherever you want. In most of Richard's "complete kits" - he has them plumbed into the brake lines.

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ECHS...ressionRank=15

BTW: As it is a basic pressure operated switch, it does not care whether you are 6V or 12V, it just makes the connection.

That works for me. Thanks for the link. So where is the most logical place to plumb it?

Often times the bolt for the brass Y block at the master cylinder connection has an 1/8" outlet just for the switch. If not, a T in either line will do. I bought an NORS 34 switch from ebay a while back that is probably 50's vintage, so better than anything made today I believe, but lacks the bushing David G mentions above. I posted the link and pics here about 3 years ago, and I would bet the guy is still selling them. Its nice to have it mount in the correct place, and ya no bushing, but really...you think you will wear it out? not likely. There has been many threads here about the new chinese pressure switches failing , and some say a switch from the harley davidson dealer is better. I dunno, I like the old style that you can take apart, analyze and fix at home.

The risk with the bushing-less switches isn't so much excess wear as it is the possibility that the steel-to-steel contact will rust up and become inoperable (although not that likely with only hobby use of the car).

Yes you have your choice of the mechanical switch which can be found NOS with the brass bushings or in 39-41 Ford had a special bolt 91A-2077 at the rear of the master cylinder that allowed the hydraulic switch to be connected into the system. Many complain that using synthetic brake fluid destroys the hydraulic switch, and have installed a mechanical switch to solve this problem. If your going to use original style wiring the wiring will have to be modified to use the hydraulic switch since the location and electrical termination is different.

I have a new 91a-2077 mc bolt from Third Gen Automotive. So I will go with the hydraulic pressure switch.

Personally, I have had the hydraulic switches fail, as have friends. I have mech switches on two of mine, funnily enough, the only one I have with a hydraulic switch is my 41 pickup which still has the original 1941 hydraulic switch.
