Default Parking Brake Disconect from T handle

I've removed all things that pass through the firewall, EXCEPT the parking brake cable on the '51 Tudor, in preparation for installing new firewall pad. With the dash out, the parking brake handle is free to move about in any fashion and it APPEARS that if manipulated in some fashion, the ball on the cable end would pop free of the handle/ratchet assembly. I have spent a frustrating amount of time wiggling, twisting, and no go. Can't find anything helpful in the Green Bible, any suggestions most welcome. Thanks!

On a later car (56) - If I remember correctly, there should be a pin that prevents the handle from coming out all the way (or turning to far). You have to remove the pin and then the handle can be moved to release the ball. And if I remember correctly, the pin is not screwed in - it's a force fit.

Perhaps some one else can verify or correct this.

My thanks to all the responses,......even the wire cutters, but Kudos to 51 MERC-CT! Even though my parking brake ratchet is a bit different from his, the CONCEPT made sense. I did lift up on the ratchet tab and pushed the handle FORWARD and that extended the inner tube and allowed the cable ball to easily pop off!
