Default 38 heater

I’m putting a 39 heater in my 38 sedan. Is the firewall the same as a 39 standard, and does anybody have a hole template? Also wondering about the defroster nozzles.

It is a general accepted practice to install a hot water heater in the center of the firewall above the trans hump, however, a much better location is on the passenger side of the firewall,

My '36 coupe came with a '39 Ford hot water heater mounted on the right side in lieu of the middle..... See attached pix.
The heater does not limit foot/floor space for the passenger and it is easier to run the hoses in lieu of jambing things up in the fuel pump area.

My 38 has an aftermarket hot water heater tucked up under the battery tray on the passenger side.
Since a hot water heater isn't "correct" in the "as Henry built it" sense of things, I would put the heater where it works best for you.

Get a piece of Craft Paper .
Trace out the Inlet & Outlet hose , and mounting bolts .
Then make a second one off of that .
Tape one on Firewall.
Tape the other on Firewall Pan. Then start measuring and moving them to get best location.
You got this .
Stretch

I can't picture enough room for pipes and hoses in the center. In fact, of all the old cars I've seen with an add on heater, 1000's in junk yards, 50 or so I've had pass thru my hands, I have never seen anything except a southwind gas heater in the center of the firewall
