Default Conversion of Cutout to solid state

I have a Diode conversion kit from Snyder's Auto Parts.
The instructions that came with it are for a round cutout.
I have an oval cut out and am wondering if anyone has done this adaption for an oval cutout? or would I be wasting my time in doing this conversion.
Any ideas?

Graham, my first question to you is why would you want to do that and ruin an expensive hard to get regulator /cut out. The original Ford cut out is far better than a diode providing it is in good order and set correctly. A diode will reduce the current flow slightly in the circuit because of its internal resistance. The oval cutout is actually a two step control of the gen field coils and was only fitted for a short time mostly on 1934 and 1935 cars that were equipped with radios and or police cars etc. A better way would be to fit a FUN PROJECTS round electronic regulator which looks exactly the same as the round Ford cutout even has the FORD script on top if you want it. They work very well and I have one fitted on my 34 for several years. They cost about US $100.00. NZ dollars plus post would double that figure. Regards, Kevin.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the response.
I had heard over the years that fitting a diode was supposed to help with charging when a radio was fitted, but I was a little doubtful and that is why I ask the question here.
I have several oval cutouts and am reluctant to butcher one if I am not going to achieve anything.
In the meantime I think I shall use the original, unless I get problems later.
Regards, Graham.

I've heard that Fun Projects electronic cut-out conversions are no long available. The story was they were bought out by another company, and that company discontinued that product. Maybe someone else has an update on this.

FUN PROJECTS round regulators are available again but wont sell direct to customers anymore. Have to buy from a retailer now such as C&G. Not from Macs because of some issues with them. Regards, Kevin..

Don't throw out your original cutout. You might need it later. At least a good back up in the trunk.

The oval cut out is dual rate. It has an additional relay inside, the round cut out has just one. There is a fellow that will install solid state internals with voltage control much like the Fun Projects into your oval case.
