Default 1936 Bumper Bolts

Could someone post a picture of the correct bolts for the '36 Ford bumper bar to brace and tell me the dimensions for the bolts or direct me to where I could find that info?

Also, would the bolts that go on the face of the bumper be the same as the ones used on the ends of the bumper and, if not, could you post the same info (pic & dimensions) for me?
Looking at the bumper bars, the faces are curved, while the ends look to be flat, so I imagine different bolts were used.

I've looked all over for that info, but couldn't find it.

Thanks for any help you could give me.

Bob, The answer depends on whether you have a pickup/panel or a passenger car.

If you have a passenger car:

The end of bumper hardware is a Raven carriage bolt 7/16 - 20 x 1 1/8" plus a raven 7/16 - 20 nut (3/8" thick) plus a raven 7/16 lock washer (1/8" thick)

The bumperette hardware is a raven 1/2 - 20 x 1 3/8 thick head bolt plus a raven 1/2 lock washer (5/32" thick)

If you have a pickup/panel delivery:

The end of bumper hardware is the same as above

Since there is no bumperette, the hardware consists of a oval shaped stainless clad bolt (part # 40-17758) (1/2 - 20 thread) plus raven 1/2 - 20 nut (7/16 thick) plus a raven 1/2" lockwasher (1/8 thick)

Don,
Thanks for your reply and I apologize for not stating my question was in regards to a car, not a truck .

I assume the bolts on the face of the bumper bar are also 7/16-20x 1-1/8", but would have a stainless cap on them? Also, would they be round or oval ?

Thanks,
-Bob

Hi All - apologies for digging up a zombie thread, but thought it'd be good to have the info in one place for posterity

Does anyone have the correct hardware specs for the four bolts (2 on each side) that attach the '36 Front bumper brackets to the frame?

Thanks in advance

Greetings Everyone, toddle321, I don't have the specs, but here's a supplier. Give a call and they'll probably tell you? Personally, I'd buy 'em, then ask about all the other bits you need!

Don,

Some clarification (and wandering off track) is in order as there were three versions of 40-17758. 40-17758-AR is the stainless clad oval head bolt for '33s and its threads are 7/16-20. 40-17758-B is the '34 stainless clad oval head bolt for '34s through '36s without bumper guards and its threads are 1/2-20 (its oval head is slightly less elongated than the '33 bolt, but the difference is not readily discernible, unlike the diameter of the threaded portion). 40-17758-C is a stainless clad round headed bolt used with '34 bumper guards and it also has 1/2-20 threads. Only two stainless clad bolts were used per bumper with the end attachments being with as you indicate with plain-head carriage bolts. While Ford may well have "thrifted" it after the '34 models, the previous finish on the nuts, lock washers, and carriage bolts was S-4, raven with black paint, given that they were all exposed visually.

The 40-17758-AR bolt has never been reproduced to the best of my knowledge and originals in restorable condition are scarce. Most hobbyists use 78-17908 stainless clad bolts as a substitute as it also has 7/16-20 threads. The shape of the head is noticeably smaller than the head of the original '33 bolt.

Thanks Jeff - that looked like the right kit to me too, I was scratching my head a little at why there were 6 bolts when there are only two frame attachment points on each side. I have the chrome oval bolts for the edges of the bumpers, and from a post above it appears the bumperette bolts are 1/4-20 by 1-3/8". I couldn't figure out what the last two bolts in the Third Gen set are for so was hesitating on ordering. I think Third Gen also had the bumperette bolts, but it's a separate kit

Please reread Michael's listing: "front & rear bumper bracket....", which is six attachment points in total, four in front and two for the rear bumper brackets.

Thanks @DavidG. My Woodie rear bumper brackets are different (they look more like fronts), and I clearly didn't read his Third Gen's ad closely enough.

Michael must spend countless hours keeping up the website but that obstacle can't be conquered.

Calling lets him know what you think you need, and he'll know all the stuff you didn't know you needed. I've done it and my box had surprises and life-savers, and not the candy type. Not saying it happens to everyone but Michael cares.

Order it. Pay the bill when it comes with the goodies included. Wrench on.
