Harold Dye, 1925-2023
The passing of Harold C. Dye, of Lilburn, GA, at age 98 last Wednesday has to be noted here. I can't be the only poster at Ford Barn who knew him and cherished his friendship.
Harold's published obituary is at this LINK. Harold was 'Mr. Model A' to me and many others when I was a teenager in Nashville in the '60s. I believe I am correct in saying that he eventually owned every Model A passenger body style, many of them personally restored as well as prizewinners. He could make a Model A run better than new. I once asked his why his Model As sounded so good and he indicated he always installed NOS or reground cams in them, suggesting that most restorers at the time didn't consider how wear on the cam lobes could affect running. He was a great, wonderful man who personified the very best qualities of the people in the Model A hobby. He was exceedingly kind to me numerous times overs the years. RIP, Harold.

Re: Harold Dye, 1925-2023
Hadn’t seen Harold for many years; last time was in Hershey.
Probably known him casually for 40+years! His was the first A400 I ever saw “real”…not just pics. I was awestruck! A400’s were unicorns back then around here. Nice man and an asset to the hobby……they’re passing!! Condolences to the family. |
