Default Removing Steering Box in an open car

I have a 29 Phaeton and I need to remove the steering box. After looking at it I think I may be able to pull it out from inside the car without removing the brake and clutch pedal. I can see how this would not be possible with a closed car but can it be done in an open car with the top down?

Thanks
Ron
