Default e-brake carrier

Good morning,

Does anyone have pictures or comments of the different types/styles of the e-brake

carrier <parking brake> ?

Is there a early type ? I have 2 different carriers on the same car !

Thank you,

Mike

Mike:
There are at least two types. There are pictures in the Restoration Guidelines. I prefer the later type with little ears to keep the emergency shoe from wandering. Used ones are readily available for not much money.

Also, the early style carrier had a single thickness stop tab for the parking brake, while the later style had a second plate riveted to the original plate, for a double thickness. My 28 with the original single thickness stop tab was torn and curled inward for a good 1/2". I had to straighten it and weld it.

Here's a 1930 left rear showing the double thickness stopping block and the rounded tabs to help hold the band in place.

Here's a picture of the carrier with the double thickness stop tab, but without the rounded alignment tabs to help keep the band in place. Notice that even with the double thickness it can be ripped and bent by the torque the parking brake band applies to it when the car is moving. Use it when you have to, but hopefully you have good brakes and just use it for parking a stopped car.

My 28 carrier would be the same as this picture, except it would be a single thickness tab for the parking brake band stopping block.
