carb question

There is a new strongberg look alike on the market, from china. Anybody have any comments on this, used it, compared it ? thanks, steve

Anyone have a link to the Amazon one? If cheap enough, I would tinker with one for research purposes.

I wouldn't buy any carb made in China, unless you're experienced with carb funtion and repair. Then you might save a little money.

Sal,

I tend to agree. I would be curious to try one for research purposes. I was surprised to see them at $211. $100 I would have a go. $211, not such much.

Yes, I was thinking the same just to see what's inside, but not for $211.
My curiosity will have to wait. I would assume at least a plastic float.

Stromberg of England is the real deal. They have made improvements to the original Stromberg carburetors. If you don't want to get your carburetor professionally re-built, buy the Stromberg of England carburetor.

I have 2 Stromberg 97s that came on my car. They have less than 150 miles on them but they also left me on the side of the road several times. Charlie fixed me up with a couple of rebuilt vintage carbs. No more issues.
The carburetors i removed looked like English carburetors but obviously didn’t act like it.
How do I tell the difference between an English Stromberg and a Chinese knockoff?

I see the "Stromberg of England" advertised on Mike from H&H's Instagram videos. Is there a web page that has the information on these? A Google search turned up nothing for me.

I can think of a minimum of at least 5 distinct types.

1. Original Stromberg's that came on Ford OEM and their official replacements.

2. Replacements made "back in the day" and sold by Western Auto and their ilk.

3. The new English Stromberg's.

4. The Speedway Motors "9Super7"'s.

5. The newer Chinese knockoffs.

The first 3 types were usually good carburetors, but the first two are subject to wear because of age. There are good and bad reports on the Speedway carbs, but they tend to have leakage problems. It seems the jury is still out on the Chinese knock-off's as no one seems to want to step up and try them (I was going to when they were $169, but balked at $211). I believe there are several sources for these, so depending how they turn out, we may have to separate the Chinese carburetors into good ones and bad ones.

pull it out of the box and dont check your asking for failure dosnt matter whos it is it could have been in the box for over 5 years ive had failures from ALL of them Holley Carter Stromberg it dosent matter something as simple as turning it upside down and blowing thru the fuel inlet will reveal a stuck float [rather find out before fitting than after]
