Default What kind of contraption is this?

Found this odd looking water neck sifting through some parts in the garage. Looks like it was drilled and welded together many years ago. What do you think it did?

Looks like a barnyard attempt to add a heater. Gotta admire their resourcefulness by using what you have. "Poor folks have poor ways".

Yup, that's a homemade takeoff for a coolant water heater, for sure. If you can find the engine that came from there is likely a similar connection for the heater return water on the lower gooseneck (left side of the engine block).

It is for making a cup of instant coffee on the road. A faucet was attached. It was used back in the day when only water and ethanol (home brew) was put in the cooling system.

I agree that it was probably for a heater based on the history of the car. Though the sound of a hot coffee on the road does sound like a tempting take at an alternate history
