Default Cowl Vents

When Neil posted about accessories, I replied that my '28 roadster had cowl vents. I though I'd post some photos as they seem to be a rare accessory. The only other set I've seen were for sale at the Reno meet in 1998 and they were expensive. Of course, in 1931, they were $3.50!

Thumbs up Re: Cowl Vents

Vern,

That is one sweet accessory. I would love to find a pair of those for my '29 roadster. The sidemounts would hide them, but the air circulating within the car would be nice!

Many years ago my brother and I found an early 28 fordor in the woods that was really rusty, but had an intact cowl vent. We cut the vent out of the junker and I welded in the cowl of his 30 blind back fordor he was building from pieces. It looked really great, but he said it just sucked in hot air coming from the louvers in the hood.

Those are pretty cool. I wouldn't mind a set of those.

I've heard that's why Ford dropped them after a short time in 1928.

I had an early 1928 with a cowl vent and also a 1929 Tudor that I had someone weld in a cowl vent from an early 1928. I took both of those cars at different times on long vacations. I do not remember hot air coming in the vents but on both of those vacations we passed through a swarm of dragon flies. Both times we had to close the vents when the uninvited guest came in.
