Default 39-48 stop light switch

I had a new wiring harness installed a few years ago. If I remember correctly the wires to the stop light switch are held by screws. The replacement I got from C&G has push on terminals. I'm 78+ and before I get underr the car to replace what are people using to connect??

Cut your harness and make up 2 separate short pig tails that will "push on" your new C&G stop light push on terminals. Original 1939 and 1940 stop light switch was part # 91A-13480.

Photo below shows how Harley brake light switch was adapted to harness by cutting harness and connecting Harley terminal that came with wires attached. This Harley switch uses spade connector terminals.
Harley brake light switches are also often used as they seem to be more resistant to DOT 5
brake fluid and operate on low pressure.

Here's one that uses screws to attach terminal wires. Sadly, it's not made in USA.

Originally the bullet ends were held in the switch by spring clips. The repop harnesses are made incorrectly.

Don't recall ever seeing a stop light switch with screw terminals. Correct switch has the bullet push on terminals. Your new wire harness probably had bullet terminals for the brake light switch.

Maybe you are recalling the headlight dimmer switch? Aftermarket replacement dimmer switch has screw terminals.

Sometimes I wonder why reproductions can't be made like the original part? It takes energy to do it correctly or incorrectly. So if I'm expending time and money, I'd just do the job correctly the first time. I'm weird.

Seth, maybe a little weird but methinks you are in good company
Isn't it sad that a fella might be considered weird because he does things correctly?

This is a 1951-1978 Harley switch with screw connectors. That might be what somebody used. A '64 1/2 Mustang with the bullet connectors and two other styles. You do not need to order these parts. Your local auto parts store can get them and that way you won't pay for shipping. That Mustang one fits so many years of Fords I bet they have it on the shelf.

Thanks "Kube" for posting that photo of the OEM brake light switch.
I never saw one before. Bet they are pretty rare.

You'd be correct. I was lucky enough to get a bunch of them NOS years ago for all of my restorations.
