Default 1928-29 Headlight Questions

Hi All,

I have a 1928 Phaeton that I've just started working on. I'm trying to fit up parts, so I was trying to fit the halogen headlight conversion kits I got to my headlight buckets which have old sealed beam conversions in them. I'm a bit confused, as I may be missing parts. Can someone provide information, diagrams, or photos about:

1. What retains the reflector to the headlight bucket on these conversions? I've read there should be clips on the front of the bucket. There are 4 notches in the reflector but nothing to mate to them on the bucket.
2. Silly question, but should the signal light go to the top or bottom of the headlight bulb? I've seen photos of either way.
3.How does the conduit attach to the headlight bucket? As mine was a sealed beam conversion, I seem to be missing some parts here potentially as well.

Thanks!

Thanks, Bob!

I'll have to go have a look at mine again.

1928 had no signal bulbs, but a HI and LOW bulb only in the headlamp.
You can buy the missing parts from Bert's, Bratton's, and Snyder's.

To maybe clarify, 28 had a single bulb with two filaments, hi/low. The parking lamp used in later 29-31 was set above the center headlight bulb. If you have this and want to use it you would need a separate switch, as the 28 had only 3 positions on the wheel - off, dim, bright.

Thanks for the responses. I'm aware that they didn't have the signal lights. I purchased the upgrade kit to halogens for 12V (as I'm converting to 12V), and I value being seen so I got the kit with signal lights. The instructions are poor and it isn't clear which direction should be up. While it's a custom installation, I'm wondering if there's a preference for up or down.

My housing also doesn't have any tabs, it's flat across the front lip. Would a 28-29 have those for sure?
