Angry Driving in 110 degree heat

Willamette Valley Oregon. My car got around fairly well on a 10 mile drive, but started to experience vapor lock going home after a quick stop. It started but ran very weakly for about 3 miles. after cooling down it did just fine putting it away in the garage.

Rare conditions for your area.

If it happens again, just pour some water on your carb bowl. Common problem.

The catch was 'after a quick stop', during which the fuel in the carb bowl boiled soaking interior of the engine = flooded.

Next time (?) shut off the fuel valve allowing the engine to run dry the carburetor.

Vapor lock began's at the Bowl? I've always thought fuel lines

I've wrapped my fuel line with fiberglass strips and used an asphalt coated fiber loom over the fiberglass because I thought lock began in the lines. I've shot the fuel bowl that was 155 before I did this, to 120 afterwards.
Interesting, now I've got to rethink vapor locking
Thanks

That is exactly what I do, shut off the fuel valve allowing the engine to run the carburetor dry. I also have a phenolic spacer between the manifold and the carburetor. Seems to help.

That’s a great idea, but won’t work so well at a loooong traffic light.

At a loong traffic light open up the GAV. With boiling gas you do not get enough gas. I open the GAV 3 to 5 turns to keep the car going. After a few minutes of driving when the car cools down you can crank the GAV down.

I have never experienced "vapor lock" at a traffic light, just when the carb gets heat soaked after a "quick stop" then restarted.

I have never experienced V.L. either. Tomorrow will be 112 here so I will go out once again and drive it like I mean it, then stop for 5 or 10 minutes and see if I can conjure some up.. it all makes sense but never have had it yet. COVID either, for that matter.
…. But fully vaccinated.

So, back to the question. I also thought that vapor lock happens at the fule lines, not the bowl.

Ethonal gas, I would think, will boil at at a lower temp than the old non ethanol gas.

First...Open gas cap!...I waited hours for a tow on July 1st a few years ago and after getting it home opened the gas cap, and that's all it needed.
