Default Victoria Steelback Tops

My 1931 Steelback Victoria has the existing top. It looks like a nylon cover that is smooth. I noticed in various pictures that their tops look like a cobra short grain pattern. I'm at a crossroads in restoration and have little to zero knowledge in this matter. What direction should I go?
