induction gauge/meter

After installing new wiring harnesses on the 48 the battery gauge/meter quit working. I read on another thread the same thing happening to MS Precher on his pickup truck. I have not seen another post from him whether or not he got it working.

Would the new wire being better insulated than the old cloth covered wire have anything to do with this?

Also would this other type of gauge work. The back is different where the wire passes through.
