how tell the difference between 39-41 and 42-48
I have forgotten how to tell the difference in juice brakes between i believe it was 39-41 and 42-48. I think if was difference in adjustment in linings, Can some one out there tell me how to tell the difference thanks Tom

39-41 have bottom eccentric adjustments.There are 2 large lock nuts at the bottom of backing plate that face the banjo .

42-48 also have a dimple in the stamping inside the lower recess.

Here's 1940. The 2 white dots are where the "dimples" are on the adjusters.

Like others have pointed-out, the '39-'41 has adjustable (with lock nuts) shoe pivots as seen just below. The 'later ones have the fixed pivots, as seen here in the picture on right. DD

If you're looking at shoes, the earlier type have round holes. The later type have a hole with two flats.
The shoes sit on pivot washers the early type are round on the outside with a sort of round hole in the middle except it has one square corner. (sounds daft). The later pivot washers have a round hole in the middle and are round on the outside except for two flats. The backplates also use different types of shoe retaining springs. The later backplates also have three pads each side for the shoe to sit on. Mart. |
