Re: light rod stuck in shaft
Pick an old drill bit that will just fit in the bore, braze a rod to it and start twisting. At some point it will bite in,and the remains of the shaft will start to twist.I never gave it a thought until you started asking about light switch rods.I thought I had stripped it out,but it has been sitting there for ten years so I really couldn't remember.

Re: light rod stuck in shaft
I bought a reproduction light rod that was about .005" too large for the shaft center hole. Had to do a lot of sanding to make it fit. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this little anoyance.

Re: light rod stuck in shaft
A fellow in our club has the same problem of to large a repro rod, plus, someone peened over the steering shaft trying to get the wheel off. He has a lot of filing to do. Make sure you include the little brass collar at the top of the horn rod.

.370", but a dowel might be about the same size. If you make sure there are no burrs and use a good penetrating oil you might be able to push it through with a little hammering. Good luck on that one. B.G. |

Re: light rod stuck in shaft
I think the size of the repro rods has been addressed. I just got one from Snyders and measured it against the old original and they were within .001 of each other. Original was .373, new was .374. Slipped right into the steering shaft along with the small bushing.
The only thing the new rod needed work on was deepening the groove for the spider keeper, other than that the fit and finish seems pretty nice. |

Re: light rod stuck in shaft
Rust in the bore would complicate removal.

Re: light rod stuck in shaft
Being that the horn rod is hollow, you might have good a chance of crushing/mushrooming it out, getting really stuck and not moving it at all just using a steel rod and hammer to drive it out. Or it will just pop out the end. You can try.
