Re: Crank pulley nut torque?
Don't think Ford had torque spec. I give it a couple of raps with my air impact wrench. Bill

Re: Crank pulley nut torque?
I use an impact wrench when the radiator is off, but does anyone use it with the radiator on, because I cannont get the socket with a 3/4 inch drive with the 1/2 adapter, because the 3/4" extension does not fit through the crank bearing hole for me. With the radiator on, I use the the crank in the nut and hit it with a ball and peen hammer. Thanks PS For true scientific precision, I use 3 burps with the impact wrench and about 5 good whacks with the hammer.

Interesting. I guess the key is to have started looking 40 years ago. That's probably how long I've had my Proto socket. Might get lucky at a swap meet. Joe

Re: Crank pulley nut torque?
Hasn't anyone figured out yet the flats on the crank nut were put there for removal rather than install?

Just wondering, though...do you think the factory kept a crank wrench on the assembly line for this purpose? Joe

Re: Crank pulley nut torque?
I made a special bent box wrench for the crank nut. Using this or a socket and breaker bar, you can place it on the nut and lay the handle against the left side of the frame and click the starter (with the key off) to loosen the nut.
Here are a couple pictures of the wrench I heated and bent to fit the crank nut. Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 05-23-2010 at 05:44 PM. |

Re: Crank pulley nut torque?
Thanks, In case someone wants to make a wrench, I just added a couple pictures as an edit rather than as a new reply and I see it didn't bring it to the top again. I'm still learning how this new forum works. Anyway you can see how to bend it and where I heated by the different coloring.
