Default Starter Rod

My firewall has two holes for the starter rod and neither line up with the switch. Which one should I work harder with?

It is an early '31 Coupe. But in the course of taking the pix, I worked harder at it and the part with the female thread is not as rigid as I assumed and I was able to screw the rod in.

Thanks, Tom
