headlight conversion
My question regards converting my stock 31 deluxe roadster lights to quartz bulbs. I took the bucket apart and have one (1) bulb inside. I'm assuming that this is correct as I have cowl lights. The reflector is in perfect condition but has a protrusion on the rear where the bulb socket enters and is secured. In several Model A parts catalogues there is a conversion kit offered for quartz bulbs. All kits require enlargement of the socket hole to accept the larger quartz bulb. This is where I am confused. How would one enlarge the socket hole when there is an approximate 1" protrusion on the rear of the reflector?

Re: headlight conversion
Don't cut anything until you look around for a quartz bulb that will go into the original socket. Maybe you can find something in the archives or someone will post.

I have used their bulbs for 8+ years, I bought them at Hershey, but he has USA dealers also ---I also think there are "copys" of his bulbs that do not have good filament alignment that some parts venders sell. They fit perfectly in the original socket, the focus was so close to original bulbs that even though I readjusted it it ended in the same place. There are no problems using these bulbs with an original generator. |
